Rose information: The hips of most species are red, but a few have dark purple to black hips. Rose oil, is the yellow essential oil extracted from various species of rose blossoms, and forming the chief part of attar of roses. For all general rose pruning (including cutting flowers for arrangements), sharp secateurs (hand-held, sickle-bladed pruners) should be used to cut any growth 1/2" or less in diameter.
