Military information: In 1902 the French were the first to introduce the armoured car. World War II inspired films such as Bridge on the River Kwai, The Longest Day, and Saving Private Ryan. Given a fixed thickness of armour plate, a projectile striking at an angle must penetrate more armour than one impacting perpendicularly. An angled surface also increases the chance of deflecting a projectile.
