Military information: Machine guns appeared in the middle of the 19th century. Automatic rifles and light machine guns arrived at the beginning of the 20th century. The Germans developed a chlorine gas that was highly lethal, and used it at the Second Battle of Ypres, during April 1915. The British Army's Challenger 2 main battle tank uses composite armour.
